Andover is situated right in the middle of Hampshire. Through many centuries, the town was a quiet, small village, which was famous for its market. It was only in the beginning of the 1960’s that Andover developed several industrial enterprises such as tea blending, printing, and engineering. Today, Andover is a town which has manged to preserve its British small-town charm over the centuries.
Andover is the ideal place to be if you are interested in England's maritime history as many of the important harbours are in the immediate vicinity. Bristol, Portsmouth, Southampton and Bournemouth are all worth a visit and the Isle of Wight is only a stone’s throw away.
Andover is also a good starting point for those interested in the ancient myths of the region. Avebury Henge and Stonehenge are close at hand. Glastonbury, with the myths that originated around its Abbey, can also be visited as a day trip.
However, as not everyone is curious about ancient history, Andover also offers the opportunity of being right on London's doorstep, while still enjoying small town England.
