The name Cambridge is probably forever connected to the university, which is, apart from Oxford, the oldest in Great Britain. Up till today, many important people have been students in Cambridge: among them such celebrities as Newton, Darwin and Milton.
Still, there is more to see and do in Cambridge than study. The landscape is most beautiful. The small river Cam, which gave the name to the city, runs close to the buildings of the different colleges. For those who can spare the time to go for a walk along the river, will enjoy a whole range of different building from various epochs. The King’s College Chapel, one of the most magnificent churches in England, is worth an extensive visit.
The spectacular country charms that surround the whole town convey the feeling that time stopped centuries ago. Still, that does not mean that development has ceased. The large amount of students and a colourful cultural scene in combination with plenty of possibilities for sport, g allow Cambridge a modern touch. Cambridge is also an excellent town for shopping as it has a wide range of shops that offer everything one can ask for. Those keen on books will find this city very exciting.
